BARDIA KONH
Advisor/Mentor
Bardia Konh is currently a professor at the University of Hawaii, in the Mechanical Engineering Department. His research is oriented toward the design, optimization and analysis of medical devices, particularly an active flexible needle for percutaneous needle-based procedures to assist surgeons/technicians in their tasks.
AMMI LAB
Advanced Materials & Medical Instruments Lab
AMMI is a research laboratory in the Mechanical Engineering Department at University of Hawaii at Manoa whose aim is to develop smart medical instruments that could help surgeries to be less invasive and more accurate. Their projects cover a vast majority of topics such as material characterization and training, design and development, testing and evaluations, and control studies.
LANSING SUGITA
Project Manager/Sensor & Needle Insertion Team
Lansing Sugita is a Mechanical Engineering Senior at the University of Hawaii. She was appointed Project Manager by her team due to her experience working on numerous research projects in renewable energy, cancer treatment, additive manufacturing, and aerospace, however her main interest is in biomedical engineering. She believes this project can make a positive impact on the effectiveness of cancer therapy and wants to learn more about biomedical engineering.
JAKE SHIROKANE
System Integrator/Sensor & Needle Insertion Team
Jake Shirokane is currently a Mechanical Engineering senior at the University of Hawaii. As an undergrad he’s had the privilege of working on a quad-rotor drone and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Formula Project. With years of experience working on engineering projects, Jake comes to us with the skills to perform his duties as Systems Integrator.
DANIELLE AU
Financial Manager/Smart Memory Alloy & Finite Element Team
As a Mechanical Engineering senior, Danielle Au aims to combine her knowledge of mechanical systems
while contributing to the well-being of society. She has been elected Financial Manager by her team due to her background in economics, as well as her detail-oriented and professional personality.
DYLAN APILADO
Smart Memory Alloy & Finite Element Analysis Lead
Dylan Apilado has earned an Associates Degree in Natural
Sciences and is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering. With this project, he wishes to challenge
himself and to become more knowledgeable in every aspect this project has to offer.
JORDAN FUJIMOTO
Sensors & Needle Insertion Lead
Jordan Fujimoto is a Mechanical Engineering senior. He has worked on several other projects such as, Micro Baja and SAE Formula. He will utilize his engineering background to assist in this project as the lead for the sensors and needle insertion team.
EMMA KAWAMOTO
Webmaster/Active Joint & Needle Body Team
Emma Kawamoto is currently a Mechanical Engineering senior at the University of Hawaii. Due to her experience in graphic design and interest in the advancements of medical technologies, she is able to provide diligent support for this project.
KRISTAL VIDAD

Kristal Vidad is a Mechanical Engineering Senior studying at the University of Hawaii. Her engineering skill set lays the foundation for her position as lead for the active joint and needle body team.
